Sovereign, end-to-end encrypted messaging with a server-independent core that keeps working online, nearby, and off-grid

Komms is a sovereign messenger whose end-to-end encrypted core does not require an account, phone number, project-operated server, or permanent internet connection. The same sealed messages can travel directly over the internet, local links, commodity Meshtastic LoRa radios, or a file carried on a USB stick.

The public 0.1 Alpha includes the Rust cryptographic and protocol core, encrypted local storage, peer-to-peer delivery, volunteer ciphertext mailboxes, off-grid transport, desktop applications, Android testing packages, and an iOS shell. Identity is a keypair created on the user’s own device; message history stays local, encrypted, exportable, and genuinely under the user’s control.

The product site and documentation at komms.org use a softened-brutalist static design with plain-language product explanations, a visual technical walkthrough, and generated reference documentation. Komms is open source under AGPLv3 and remains in active development.
