Bongómælir
An Iceland-wide Bongó score combining sun, wind, temperature, rain, and daylight to answer one important question: is it good enough to go outside?
Bongómælir answers the important Icelandic question: Hversu bongó er hjá þér? It turns sun, wind, temperature, precipitation, and daylight into a deterministic 0–100 score, then ranks the five best locations and suggests somewhere better when the selected place is not bongó enough.
Live forecasts come from the credential-free MET Norway Locationforecast API on the server, cached for 15 minutes. Static weather snapshots remain as a safe fallback, so the site still works when the upstream service does not. There are no accounts, uploads, stored locations, API keys, or client-side weather calls.
The project grew from a homemade experiment Andri built at fourteen: a 3W LED sign spelling bongó, powered by an oversized solar-panel array in the window. If the weak Icelandic sun produced enough power for the sign, it was bongó. This version keeps the same delightfully unscientific spirit while applying a tested scoring model across Iceland.
